Hi,

I wish to adopt a gentle puppy for my 4 year old son. He is very good natured and loves to play with dogs when he sees one outside. Attached his photo.

I am scare of those dogs that will bark when seeing strangers, so I hope to adopt a gentle dog.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I'd advise you to adopt an adult dog if your intentions for it is to be a companion for your son. Because there is no such thing as a gentle puppy. All healthy puppies are active, they like to run around and they love to bite and chew. Puppy play is very rough. They enjoy wrestling with their littermates and roll and tumble around.

A toybreed puppy will be too small and fragile for small children as they can be easily injured if not careful. Larger breed puppies might accidentally injure your child when they get rambunctious which all puppies will. Plus puppies have lower tolerance levels for children like if a child grabs their fur, tail or legs the puppy will be more inclined to react by snapping back.

Mature dogs are usually more mellow as they are already over that puppy stage.
