SINGAPORE: From February 1, dog owners will have to pay S$20 more in licensing fee for their unsterilised pet.
The fee will go up from S$70 to S$90.
For sterilised dogs, the licensing fee will go up just a dollar, from S$14 to S$15.
In a statement on Monday, the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) said it encourages dog owners to sterilise their pets to prevent unwanted breeding which could contribute to pet abandonment and public safety issues.
In another change, those who own more than three dogs will have to pay S$180 for the fourth and subsequent dog, up from S$175.

AVA said the fee changes will apply from February 1 to all new and renewed licences.

Dog owners who pay the licence fees via GIRO will get a 10 per cent rebate.

AVA will continue to waive the first-year licence fees for dogs released from AVA's pound to its animal welfare partners for re-homing.
